True to her social media moniker ‘@fashionfootprint’, Wafaa Carneiro is making a mark in the industry. With over 100K Instagram followers (and counting), the Dubai-based influencer is one to keep your eye on. Although her profile is not immediately striking, her signature minimalist aesthetic is instantly recognisable – owner to an alluring neutral-themed feed, part of Wafaa’s appeal is that she never tries too hard. She has remained loyal to her personal style from day one despite fashion’s fickle nature.

“I keep up with trends but don’t follow every single one of them. For example, the neon trend looks great on other people but I can’t see myself in it.”

Wafaa’s relatable authenticity has not only made her a crowd favourite but also our top choice to showcase the modern and polished CHARLES & KEITH Eid 2019 collection. The tastemaker presents a new, understated way of dressing for the festivities by pairing the collection’s distinctively feminine designs with sharp blazers and flattering trousers, creating looks that are chic and contemporary. Read on for an interview with her, where she answers our questions about her career, personal goals and more.

You are half-Egyptian and half-Lebanese and have lived in a few countries in the Middle East. Do you think that your background and experiences have shaped your unique personal style?

Being of mixed heritage has definitely shaped my taste in fashion but travel is the real inspiration behind my personal style. I enjoy observing how people from different parts of the world dress on the streets, and have always liked how the French approaches fashion – low-key with a touch of mystery and sophistication.

Can you tell us more about how you became a fashion influencer – did you have a strategy when it comes to growing and engaging your following, or did it happen organically?

When I used to model, I would observe how designers put great efforts into the little details to make their designs pop. That inspired me to create an outlet to share my own style and keep developing it. There is no magic formula to growing and succeeding, except putting a countless amount of hard work into what you do. I had to work on my photography and post-production skills – which was a game changer for me – and learn how to market to my target audience. Everything was part of a grand plan that I put into motion last year to achieve my goals.

In your opinion, what are some trends that would be big in 2019?

In the second half of 2019, I think trends like puff sleeves, tonal outfits, colourful tailored suits and sequins will make a big comeback, while the highly sought-after neon trend will continue to reign supreme.

We love how you have styled the pieces that you picked out from CHARLES & KEITH’s Eid 2019 collection. If you must choose just one, what would be your favourite item and why?

I love everything about this collection, especially the little details in the bags and shoes that are all very eye-catching. However, if I had to choose just one item, it would be the metal beaded top handle bag. It has a unique style and I can match it with any of my outfits. Also, the contrast in colour between the body and the top handle really sets the bag apart.

Eid is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. What do you look forward to the most about the holiday, and what does it mean to you?

To me, Eid means food invitations and family gatherings. Unfortunately, since I work as an air stewardess, I don’t get to celebrate public holidays. But I like to see things from a positive perspective, so I try to enjoy the nice destinations that I get to travel to for work during the holidays. I also make sure to connect with my family and set some time apart to travel with them.

Moving forward, are there any important milestones – in work and in life – that you hope to achieve in the near future?

My dreams and goals are endless, and I am always working on new strategies to reach them. This year, as part of my effort to grow globally, I will be taking part in more international events. I am also building a new channel – which I am still working on – to allow my followers to get to know me better on a personal level. I hope they will like it.
